Two men have been ordered to pay more than £700 after being convicted of spitting.
Jon Vaidean of Elstree Gardens, Edmonton, and Walter Lepitak of Park Lane, Tottenham, were sentenced in their absence at Tottenham Magistrates’ Court on October 2, for spitting in the street.
Vaidean was seen spitting on the street in Fore Street, Edmonton on March 31, and ordered to pay a £100 fine, £250 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Lupitak pleaded guilty by post to spitting, also in Fore Street, Edmonton, on April 7, and was ordered to pay a £100 fine, £250 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
Enfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment and community safety, Councillor Chris Bond, said: “Spitting is a frankly disgusting habit and has no place in a civilised society.
"While I’m happy these sentences will act as a deterrent it’s disappointing that people feel the need to spray spit all over our streets and we’ll continue to prosecute people who clearly do not know how to behave in a decent manner publicly.”
