A woman reminisced about her "hippy" youth like it was yesterday as she celebrated her 103rd birthday.

Doris Jackson, a woman who lived in London during both world wars and the Blitz, celebrated at Anastasia Lodge Care Home, in Winchmore Hill, on Friday, September 26.

Family and fellow residents joined Doris in her celebrations, including her 18-month-old great great niece Emily.

The 103-year-old received many gifts and had an entertainer to help create a memorable birthday.

She said: "I had a very nice day and appreciate all the efforts that went into my birthday party."

A daughter and grand-daughter to former seamstresses of the Royal family, Doris was once a regular visitor to Buckingham Palace, something she thought of as an ordinary occurrence.

Looking back on her life, she talked about how she embraced her youth by doing things like ballroom dancing and living a "hippy lifestyle" in Ibiza for more than 20 years.

When asked what her secret was to living to 103, Doris said she was active in her younger years.

Niece Patricia Diss added: "the Anastasia Lodge have also done a fantastic job in looking after Dorris. I am gobsmacked at this place for how welcoming it has been to her and clearly it has done something right as Dorris is keeping so well."
