I feel I must write to you about the excellent care I have recently received at the urgent care centre based at Chase Farm Hospital.

In January this year, I broke my wrist in several places while walking my dog in Hilly Fields. After a passerby tried to phone an ambulance and was told there was a 40-minute wait, my sons came and phoned a taxi and took the dog home.

We got to the urgent care centre at 9.30am, where I was seen quickly and sent to X-ray. My wrist was diagnosed as being dislocated and fractured. I was dealt with effectively. The nurses gave me pain killers and straightened it and plastered it with a backslab. I was given an appointment for Barnet fracture clinic for the following Monday at 11.30am.

At the very busy Barnet fracture clinic they were amazed at how well the staff had put back my complex fracture and just plastered over the backslab.

We really must fight to keep and fund this service, the staff are excellent and the urgent care centre is clean, but it really needs to be refurbished and brought up to date.

Finally, there is a free shuttle bus between Barnet and the North Mid and from Chase Farm. The timetable can be collected from Chase Farm or the internet. Time to get to Barnet is just 20 minutes, rather than 45 minutes on the 307. This service is under threat if we don’t use it.

Please use these services that still exist at Chase Farm Hospital before we lose them too.
