It’s a shame that letters attacking councillors that are stepping down at the election are being given space on the letters page.
I simply couldn’t understand the ones being printed that were attacking Cllr Tom Waterhouse. As a Chase ward resident, I’m sorry to see Tom is stepping down. He’s someone that’s on-the-ball and very thorough when it comes to local issues. He is also very good at getting things sorted. I also know, having met him at ‘Nick Direct’ events hosted last year by MP Nick de Bois, that his views on the EU, welfare and tax are both knowledgeable and well thought through.
I actually hope that in the future Cllr Waterhouse will stand for council in Chase ward again. But why anyone would put in those hours and attend all those meetings only to be open to unjust and unnecessary personal attacks in the press is beyond me. It is this kind of negative behaviour that turns people off politics.
