The first business has signed up for a scheme to improve internet connectivity for companies in Enfield.

Bridgman Quality Garden Furniture, of Lockfield Avenue, Enfield, is the first business to receive a voucher as part of the Connection Voucher scheme.

Set up by the Greater London Authority and Enfield Borough Council, the scheme is intended to upgrade speed and consistency for businesses broadband.

Joint managing director Howard Bridgman said: “I highly recommend other companies to contact Enfield Council broadband project team and apply for a grant to receive superfast broadband as this will really make a big difference to your company.”

Small or medium-sized businesses and charities in the borough can apply for vouchers ranging £250 to £3,000 from the council as funded by the GLA.

Enfield is one of six boroughs in the capital to be taking part in the voucher system but it will be rolled out across all boroughs at the end of March 2014.

Enfield Council’s cabinet member for business and resources Councillor Del Goddard said: “This scheme shows our commitment to helping businesses grow.

"Good quality broadband benefits companies in a number of important ways and the way we have managed to attract this funding on behalf of our businesses demonstrates once again our commitment to supporting our businesses."
