An Enfield hairdresser was transformed when it held a fun day for a children’s hospice.
James Whitaker Hair, in Lancaster Road, Enfield, welcomed face painters, magicians and a falconer into their shop in aid of Noah’s Ark Children Hospice in North London.
Mr Whitaker, who set up the salon nearly eleven years ago admitted it was a “mad” day as all staff donned ‘onesies’ and painted their faces for the cause.
He said: “This is the first time we have put on a fun day. With kids being on half term we thought this was a great chance to do something good for a very worthy cause.
“I have just become a father and giving something back to a children’s hospice is important, they do a lot in the area.”
Trying to concentrate on cutting hair and making sure two birds of prey don’t get out of hand is a tricky business, but Mr Whitaker said he enjoyed every moment.
He added: “We had a falconer come down with an eagle owl and harrier hawk which was brilliant. I love birds of prey.
“Having birds of prey, a magician and still providing a service was a bit mad but we had families staying for three or four hours enjoying themselves.
“We have managed to raise so far about £300 but that was just profits from the shop on the day. The money from the raffle is still being added up and we hope it will be closer to £400.”
