Scouts from across the borough have been selected to represent the UK at a competition in Japan.

Twelve members of Enfield, Southgate and Edmonton scout groups will take park in the World Scout Jamboree in 2015.

During their ten-day trip to the Far East, they will join 30,000 other scouts from across the globe.

They will be part of a group of 36 aged between 14 to 17 from the South East of England, who started preparing for their adventure at Frith Grange campsite in Barnet last weekend.

They will continue to train until they fly out to Yamaguchi City on July 28, 2015.

Ellie Way, 14, from Edmonton said: “I’m very proud to be selected to represent Enfield and London at a world gathering. Going to Japan will be very exciting."

Enfield Explorer Scout Ben Conway, 16, said “Scouting has giving me lots of opportunities for new experiences, but this is bigger than anything I’ve done before. Japan will be amazing.”

Southgate’s Lydia James, 16, added “I’ve made lots of friends in Scouts and I’m looking forward to making friends from all over the world”.

Chief Scout Bear Grylls said: “Congratulations to the Enfield Scouts and all the other young people who have been selected to represent their communities at the World Scout Jamboree in Japan in 2015.

"Over the course of the Jamboree these young people will be able to meet people from around the world, take part in amazing adventures and experiences and be challenged to think about global issues in a new light."
