More than 60,000 litres of vodka and beer that were illegally smuggled into the UK have been recovered from two industrial units in Edmonton.
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) officers discovered 30,000 litres of White Goose and Krakus-branded vodka, and wine, in one unit during a pre-Christmas raid.
In the other unit nearby, 31,000 litres of beer were seized.
Officers estimated the amount of tax avoided on the imported alcohol to be worth £450,000.
Peter Millroy, assistant director of criminal investigation for HMRC, said: “We have active and effective teams operating across London to deter and disrupt those dealing in illicit alcohol.
“We will seize the goods and people involved may face criminal prosecution. This illegal trade has a devastating effect on legitimate retailers, who have to compete with black market traders.
“We appeal to local people and businesses to join us in the fight against crime and encourage anyone with information on illegally imported goods, or tax evasion and fraud, to contact the Customs Hotline on 0800 59 5000.”
No arrests have been made following the raid on December 12, but HMRC is continuing its investigations.
