Many people wish they could emulate their heroes' success in music, sport, science or the arts - but pupils at an Enfield primary school were encouraged to dress like theirs.

The idea was part of ‘Best I Can Be’ week at George Spicer Primary School in Southbury Road, which aimed to raise expectations at the school and generate a positive attitude in its pupils.

Having had visits from Great Britain athletes Dwain Chambers and Eugene Ayanful this week to inspire students, children and staff were then given the task of dressing up as someone who has inspired them.

All members of the school then paraded outside the school to show who inspired them.

Headteacher Hilary Ballantine said: “Hero Day was amazing. Children came as their mum or dad, famous figure or sporting personality.

"I was very impressed to see one of the Year 6 girls dress up as Malala Yousafzai, who championed girls’ rights to an education in Pakistan and is the youngest nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize."
