The high street in Enfield Town has taken a hit with the collapse of a second major chain in less than a week.

Entertainment giant HMV went into administration this morning – with ten jobs at its Church Street branch at risk.

The news comes just days after camera store Jessops, which is almost opposite HMV in Church Street, closed after it appointed administrators Price Waterhouse Cooper.

Administrator Deloitte plans to keep HMV’s 239 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland open while it searches for potential buyers and investigates the business’ prospects.

However, approximately 4,350 jobs are at risk if a solution is not found to tackle the financial problems accrued by the 94-year-old business.

Enfield’s workers were also hit when electrical company Comet, with a branch in Crown Road in Southbury, closed on December 18 after going into administration in November.
