A MIDDLESEX University student has earned a place in the semi-finals of a prestigious singing competition.

Michelle Adams, a second year psychology student, won through after auditioning for Live & Unsigned 2008 without any accompaniment in front of a panel of judges in Croydon.

The Zimbabwean-born singer/songwriter performs R&B and soul music and has been singing since she was five.

She has previously had the opportunity to work with Alton Edwards and other Zimbabwean musical greats, like Metaphysics and winners of last year's contest, BK & Kazz.

Michelle said: "Music has always been a big part of my life. It allows me to investigate my emotions."

Performing under the stage name Sahara C, Michelle's original song Goodbye Playa' reached a semi-final position in the highly-acclaimed UK Songwriting Contest 2007'.

Michelle currently performs at various functions including dinner and dance events and talent showcases.

She is now working in the studio on her first single No Tomorrow.

Michelle , who balances her time between her music, her learning and her two children, said: "I'd love to be able to record albums professionally.

"Music is definitely a career I love. I enjoy my gift."

Live & Unsigned', originally named South Coast Idol, is a national music competition giving unsigned musicians the chance to perform live and share their own unique style.

The winners will get a recording contract, with up to £20,000 investment in their single from Future Music.

Michelle will be performing at the semi-finals at Ashcroft Theatre, Fairfields, Croydon, on March 16. Tickets cost £6 and are available from Michelle at saharacee@gmail.com
