Jay Simpson has agreed a deal to return to Leyton Orient until the end of June 2019, subject to international clearance.
The 30-year-old played for the O’s between 2014 and 2017 and became just the 11th forward in the club’s history to score 20 league goals in a season.
After scoring a further five goals in League Two during the 2015/16 season, Simpson departed the club in 2017 for Philadelphia Union in the MLS having scored 36 goals in 99 games for Orient.
The striker made 34 appearances during his two years in the USA but returned to the UK upon the expiry of his contract and began training with the O’s to keep his fitness.
Speaking to the club’s website, Simpson said: “I like the group of boys and I really like Justin [Edinburgh]. I have a lot of respect for him. Also, I know the club and the people at the club, which is part of the reason why I was looking forward to coming back.”
The deal is subject to international clearance due to Simpson’s last competitive game coming in the MLS.
