Enfield Ignatians' bonanza season ended on a real high after the blue and golds put a spirited Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) side to the sword in the Middlesex Bowl final at a floodlit Donkey Lane on Tuesday evening, running out 31-13 victors.
In a real mood to entertain, Ignatians dominated the first-half 24-3 after Dannan O'Meachair (twice) and Tan Mbonu both crossed the line.
The hosts were also awarded a penalty try after HAC collapsed a maul close to their own line. Man-of-the-match Tom Price added to the scoreboard by rifling over two conversions.
HAC, the London Three North West champions, certainly had their moments. They won four kickable penalties, with Oliver Crosby converting one and hitting the post with another attempt.
Ignatians' dominant pack continued to make its presence felt in the second half and they found the perfect remedy to a second successful Crosby penalty by scoring a pushover try from a five-metre scrum via number eight Wes Warren, which Price also converted.
To their credit, HAC kept trying and were eventually rewarded after Marcus Da Costa went over late in the half which Crosby converted.
For Ignatians this was a fitting culmination of a best ever league season as a level seven club after finishing third in London Two North East.
They were also the beaten finalists in the South-East final of the Intermediate Cup, which was won by East Grinstead.
