Spurs made it three league victories in a row after leaving Wigan with a 2-1 win.

Goals from Rafael Van der Vaart and Gareth Bale gave Harry Redknapp's side a two-goal half time advantage.

Mohamed Diame pulled one back for Wigan but Steve Gohouri saw red for two challenges on Bale as Tottenham claimed three points.

The home side did themselves no favours when with the game just three minutes old, Maynor Figuroa gifted possession to Emmanuel Adebayor.

Adebayor ensured the hosts would regret that early mistake, playing in Van der Vaart to open the scoring.

Wigan's defence looked nervous as Spurs pushed forward in search of a second and they duly found it at the mid-point of the first period.

A run from Bale saw the Welsh international meet a Luka Modric corner to find the net with his head.

The Latics brought on Ronnie Stam at half time and the substitute was key to the hosts getting themselves back into the match.

Stam charged down a clearance from Benoit Assou-Ekotto before finding Diame, who held off the challenge of Younes Kaboul to shoot beyond Brad Friedel.

Any hopes of a fightback looked to be dashed just past the hour mark though as Wigan were reduced to ten men – Gohouri dismissed for a second challenge on Bale.

Kaboul went on to rattle the crossbar but there was no further scoring as Spurs moved up to sixth in the table.
