ENFIELD Judo Club continue to go from strength to strength.

Members came home from the prestigious Belgium International Judogne with five medals.

In the senior women's U57kg catergory, Siobhan O'Neill and Amy Thompson fought their way through different halves of the draw to meet in the final.

Both girls know each other, which meant it was always going to be difficult, but, almost at the end of the five-minute fight, Siobhan held Amy down for the maximum score of ten.

In the senior men's U90kg competition, 16-year-old Philip Awiti threw all of his opponents for the maximum score of ten to win gold with ease.

For the juniors, Prisca Awiti, competing in the U70kg competition, cruised to a gold medal. Prisca has not lost a fight since June 2009, winning golds in every competition she has entered. Tia Thompson also performed well to gain a silver in the U40kg category.

Meanwhile, there was further success for the club at the London Area Age Banded Championships.

Six Enfield fighters competed and five medals were gained.

Prisca Awiti came home with another gold, while there were silver medals for Thomas Hill and Nile Gilfillian. Samuel Hill and Diju Awiti picked up bronzes.

Enfield Judo Club founder George Hyslop was particularly pleased with Nile's performance.

"It was his first competition, and what a start. He fought like someone who has done this type of thing many times."
