ENFIELD Ignatians have appointed fullback Jon Moore as their new vice-captain.

The 22-year-old politics graduate enjoyed an excellent 2007/08 campaign, underpinned by excellent performances against Twickenham, London New Zealand (where he scored 15 points) and Hampstead (19 points).

Moore said: "I was very surprised by the appointment. However, I also feel very privileged and look forward to working with captain Rob Wyer."

Skipper Wyer said: "Jon played for the club as a colt and he has strong local roots.

"A former Enfield Grammar pupil, he has a strong vocal presence on the field, and I believe he can make a very positive contribution to the side."

These are exciting times for Moore, who sailed the Atlantic last year, with a second summer visit to New York beckoning.

Ignatians' first team squad had a brainstorming session last week - in advance of the July pre-season - when the 2007/08 season was reviewed.

The objectives for the forthcoming campaign were also outlined when the club transfers to London Three North-East.

Before the start of the new season a number of players and officials will be getting married, with three members of the first team pack - Dan Hutchings, Wyer and Dave Russell - as well as club treasurer Dave Hitchcock and club member Tommy Roper tying the knot from this Saturday onwards.

Everyone at the club and the Independent offers them best wishes for many years of future happiness.
