SOUTHGATE Rugby Club enters a new era in its history next season with a move to the Walker Sports Ground.

The rugby club will be sharing the facilities with Southgate Cricket Club, Adelade Hockey Club and Southgate Squash Club.

The rugby club has seen many highs and lows throughout its 82-year history, and the ground-sharing move is is being seen as an opportunity to improve the public's awareness of the club's sides with the relocation to the centre of Southgate.

Confirmation of the ground-sharing move was made at the club's annual dinner dance at the Royal Chase Hotel when the end-of-season awards were presented.

The evening was dominated by new players in their first season with the club who took an unprecedented four of the seven annual awards.

The most prestigious Players' Player of the Season award went to Mat Bryant, capping of an impressive debut year for the full-back.

This was in recognition of his phenomenal running and calmness under pressure.

The dinner dance also saw the transfer of captaincy from Tim Miall to Ben Doran, who won the Most Promising Newcomer award.

Other players to win trophies included Colin Lysaght, who took the treasured Tourist of the Year award, and powerhouse veteran Steve Dobson who was named Second Team Player of the Year.

The remaining trophies were monopolised by the Miall family, with younger brother Tim presenting older sibling Merlin with his Best and Fairest crown. Tim, meanwhile, was named Clubman of the Year.

The presentation of the Mickey Bundle Memorial Trophy went to the young players who won the traditional end-of-season Unders v Overs' club game.

The youngsters retained their title in the match which raises money in memory of Mickey Bundle.

And the club's commitment in raising money for Leukaemia Research continues with a team of cyclists currently riding 1,000 miles in aid of the charity.
