Enfield Town were beaten by the odd goal in five in a pre-season friendly away at Barking on Saturday, as their search for a clean sheet continues.

Billy Bricknell equalised for Town with a magnificent lofted effort from 40-yards out after Shaun Okojie’s opening strike was cancelled out by Billy Jones before a trialist had given the home side the advantage in a frantic and open first-half of football.

Another trialist added the fifth goal and the game and Barking’s third to finish off the scoring in a much less enthralling second period.

Four new signings played during the match, including Percy Kiangebeni and Larry Asare both of whom had returned to the club, as well as newcomers Adam Pepera and Jerry Gyebi.

It took 20 minutes for the deadlock to be broken but the opening goal went Enfield’s way.

Bricknell provided the assist when he slipped the ball to fellow striker Okojie, who did well to ride two challenges before firing low to the goalkeeper’s left and just inside the post.

The lead lasted just three minutes however, with former Town player Jones firing past Nathan McDonald after collecting the ball on the corner of the 18-yard-box. The visiting defenders may feel they ought to have done more to put pressure on the player, who was given too much time to unleash his effort.

With half-time approaching, it looked as if Enfield may be heading down the tunnel a goal behind after some slick build up play saw Barking shift the ball from left to right, providing one of their trialists with plenty of space through the centre. He had the composure to beat McDonald in the one-on-one situation.

Bricknell’s audacious lob from range provided another exciting twist before the break. but defeat was still on the cards for Enfield, with a trialist hammering home the winner three minutes after the restart.
