A 3-0 home defeat to Stotfold extended Enfield Borough’s losing streak to four games in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One on Saturday.

Stotfold, who were relegated from the Premier Division last season, are looking for a high finish in this campaign and their three goals added to the 46 scored in just their last 12 games in the division – scored by Kieran Barnes, Stephen Brooks and Robbie Buchanan.

Borough made three changes from the side that were beaten by St Panteleimon last time out as Curtis Jackson replaced the injured Kacper Wojciek in goal while there were debuts for Haziz Kone and Tiannie Wilson in place of Georges Kebi and Ruben Carvalho.

The visitors took the lead in the first half when Joe Ryan’s cross took a slight deflection off Borough defender Frank Chandler and fell perfectly into the path of Barnes to drill home from inside the area.

Blessing Tshibikubla had two good opportunities to draw the hosts level, but he aimed a header straight at Liam Gooch in the Stotfold goal and then came unstuck in the area before Richard Ennin followed it up and shot wide.

Seconds before the break, Borough were made to pay for their missed opportunities as Stotfold went two ahead. Brooks robbed Jean-Paul Antwi of possession and played the ball out to Josh Coley before receiving it back and applying a simple finish.

Ennin’s stinging effort at the start of the second half that Gooch could only gather at the second attempt proved to be Borough’s only real chance of the period.

Stotfold got men behind the ball and were content to keep possession, and it eventually resulted in a third goal at the death when substitute Buchanan rounded Jackson and squeezed in from a tight angle.

Defeat leaves the side 14th in the table, still within distance of a top half finish if they can turn their form around.

Next up for Borough is the visit of Milton Keynes Robins to the Maurice Rebak Stadium tomorrow night at 7.45pm.
