Two players for Enfield Ignatians’ Under-15 Girls’ team were recently capped at county level for Middlesex as the club starts to reap the benefits of branching into Girls’ rugby.

Grace Corcoran and Niamh Gallagher were part of the squad selected for the game at Rochford Hundred RFC and it marks the first time that girls from Ignatians have represented the county.

The competition featured both seven-a-side and 15-a-side games and it proved to be a tough afternoon for Middlesex as they came up against tough opponents, notably from Essex and Hertfordshire, but the experience for both will no doubt have proved invaluable.

Steve Corcoran, who monitored the progress of the Enfield pair, said: “Middlesex managed to win one of their six games, and the feedback from the Middlesex coaches regarding the squad’s performance was very positive, given the quality of the opposition.

“However, they conceded that there is much work to do ahead of the next round of county games in Hertfordshire on March 8 if they are to close the gap. Grace and Niamh certainly enjoyed the experience and are both hoping for further county call-ups.”
