Enfield Ignatians’ development team reached the semi-finals on the Herts-Middlesex Merit Table Two Cup on Saturday after a 29-5 win over Cheshunt II’s.
After winning the Plate final two years ago, the Blue & Golds will now contest the semi-finals of this competition on Saturday, April 4 against either Datchworth II’s or Old Grammarians.
Playing into the wind, Ignatians struggled to get going in the first half but limited their visitors to just a solitary try, which they held until the half-time interval.
However, with the elements now on their side, it was a different story in the second half as the hosts ran in tries from Anzl Swartz, Harry Masini, Liam Horn and Shane Manning.
Three conversions and a penalty from Paul Duke also added to the score to send the side into the last four of the competition.
After the game, Duke said: “We weren’t really at the races in the first period and it really was a classic game of two halves. The game really opened up in the second-half and it was a good result in the end.”
