Boxing Day saw Enfield Town end their five-game winless run with a thrilling 5-3 home success in the local derby against Haringey Borough.

Enfield led 2-1 at the break after goals from Ryan Blackman and Muhammadu Faal either side of Chiduben Onokwai’s penalty for Borough. Danilt Akindayini momentarily levelled before Lyle Della-Verde restored the lead, but Onokwai made it 3-3 before a second Faal goal and Billy Bricknell’s winner capped a scintillating game.

The hosts went in front against the run of play after 16 minutes when a swift move from Town down the left hand side resulted in Blackman providing a sweet finish into the corner.

Within six minutes, though, Haringey were level when Onokwai went down under a challenge from Marc Weatherstone, and he dusted himself down to send Nathan McDonald the wrong way from the spot.

Enfield held the lead at the break, however, as Faal continued his fine scoring form with a powerful effort on the turn after swivelling away from the defender.

Seven minutes into the second half, it was honours even once more. McDonald produced a fine save with his legs, but Akindayini was the quickest to react to the loose ball and he fired home.

Faal dragged a shot over the bar in the initial response, but they were back in front shortly after when new signing Della-Verde finished well with his left foot.

Again, though, the lead barely lasted for the home side as, within minutes, Haringey were on level terms again – Onokwai getting his second of the game after finishing off a pacey breakaway.

Having already gone in front three times, Enfield’s character was being put to the test, but it was one they passed as with 67 minutes on the clock they went ahead for a fourth time.

Bricknell turned past two defenders in the box and fed the ball to Faal, and he notched his second of the game with a precise finish into the corner.

This time, there was to be no comeback from Haringey. The eighth and final goal of the game went the way of the hosts in the dying seconds as Bricknell rifled home from inside the area.

Success take Town back up to sixth in the division and they face another local derby later today when they visit Potters Bar Town, which kicks off at 3pm.
