Enfield Ignatians kept pace with the top two in London 3 North West with a 24-12 win at home to Stevenage Town on Saturday.
Dom Nott, Michael Hall and Jonny Dixon went over for the hosts, while Paul Duke nailed all three conversions as well as a penalty.
Despite battling against awful weather conditions, the quality of Ignatians’ defensive press and their dominant scrum caused problems for Stevenage throughout.
Patient build-up brought about the first try as the hosts went through the phases, and loose-head prop Nott eventually burst over after they had been camping on the line.
Hall went over for the second shortly before half time, receiving a good off-load from Ben Mills before the try coupled with Duke’s conversion made it 14-0.
A lucky bounce of the ball allowed Stevenage’s full-back to half the deficit shortly after the restart, but Ignatians responded well and a Duke penalty as well as Dixon’s converted try made the game safe.
Stevenage added a further five-point try at the death, but the hosts were already well out of sight and claimed the points.
Next up for Ignatians is an away trip to Hitchin this Saturday.
