Enfield Town moved up to third in the Isthmian League Premier Division after a 2-1 derby win at home to Cheshunt.

Mo Faal continued his excellent form to give Town the lead at the break, but Cheshunt levelled within a minute of the restart as Marc Weatherstone got the final touch of Daniel Akindayini’s cross.

Within a minute though, Faal tapped in what proved to be the decisive goal as he reacted quickest to the rebound from Ryan Blackman’s saved effort.

Town began the quicker of the two sides and good link up play between Faal and Ken Charles almost saw them break the deadlock in the opening minutes.

However, the first real chance fell the way of the visitors, but Dipo Akinyemi failed to keep his shot on target when in a good position.

Cheshunt keeper Harry Girling had to be alert to keep out a fierce free-kick from Blackman and he also produced a save with his legs to deny Faal, but the Enfield forward found the net just before the half hour mark when he converted from Charles’ left-wing cross.

Less than a minute after the game restarted following the half-time break, Cheshunt equalised when Akindayini sprung the offside trap down the right and his cut-back bounced off Weatherstone and into the net.

However, just as quickly as the visitors had levelled after the break, Enfield went back in front. Blackman’s left-footed effort was palmed away by Girling, but Faal was in the right place at the right time to tap in the rebound.

Town had further chances to increase their lead but were wasteful in front of goal. Charles headed over unmarked from just two yards and Girling also denied the returning Billy Bricknell.

Despite their lack of potency in front of goal, Town held on to take the points and go up to third ahead of tomorrow’s home game against Horncurch.
