While most teams were playing the final games of their season in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, Enfield Borough went into their game against Wodson Park knowing they’d have one more to go afterwards.

A 3-1 win on Saturday ensured they’d have some momentum going into this Friday’s finale against Winslow United, but the result from that game will make little difference to either team’s final place in the table.

Martin Garvey put the hosts ahead after only five minutes, but Borough did well to hit back and won the game through goals from Ruben Carvalho, Alie Bangura and Micah Jackson.

It looked as though Borough were going to struggle to adapt to the windy conditions and bone dry pitch when Garvey netted early on, but they gradually gained a foothold in the game and Carvalho, the club’s Player of the Month for April, levelled proceedings 15 minutes later.

The second half had as much limited entertainment as the first and looked to be meandering for a drab draw until the 80th minute when Bangura gave Borough the lead out of nowhere.

They even added some gloss to the scoreline late on when Jackson converted a third late on.

The result means the worst-case scenario for Borough will see them equal last season’s finish of tenth, while win over Winslow this Friday, re-arranged due to the hosts’ inability to field a fit team last week, will see them move up a place to ninth.
