Oxhey Jets suffered defeat in their penultimate game of the season, going down 2-1 at home to Colney Heath in the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division.

Sean Giordmaina finished off an outstanding team move to put Jets ahead after a quarter of an hour, but George Devine’s lob levelled proceedings before the break and Andrew Sears-Black headed the winner late on.

After a slack start, it was a surprise to see it was Jets who struck the first blow when a cutting pass from Luke Jones opened up the Colney defence for Giordmaina to run through and coolly finish.

Minutes after a stunning miss from Kyle Johnson, the relentless pressure from the visitors paid off as Devine beautifully lobbed home to level the scores.

The home side began to fade further in the second half and late on they fell behind late on when Sears-Black climbed the highest from a corner to head in for Colney.

The point-denying decision game in stoppage time though when Jets were convinced they should have been awarded a penalty for handball, but the referee was unmoved and Colney left with all three points.

Northwood failed to win either of their games over the Easter weekend, keeping them 10th in the Bostik League South Central Division.

On Monday, they fell at home to playoff-chasing Marlow, who raced into the lead inside the first minute through Kelvin Bossman’s finish.

The visitors doubled their advantage before the break via Charlie Samuel, who fired in a low shot from the edge of the area.

Northwood were offered a glimmer of hope when Marlow’s Isaac Olorunfemi was dismissed for a second yellow card, but they could only pull back one through Tremayne Charles’ header off the crossbar in the 84th minute.

Despite the loss, there was cause for celebration as the club unveiled the newly named ‘Byrne Stand’ in recognition of the Byrne family’s contribution to the development of the club, and the club recognised the achievements of the under-16s side who won the Middlesex County Cup.

Saturday also provided no points for the Woods as they were beaten 3-0 away at Cheshunt.

Jason Hallett gave the hosts the lead early on to immediately put a spanner in the works for the visitors, and things got worse just before half-time when Taylor Miles doubled the lead.

Miles added his second from the penalty spot in the 88th minute to cap off a bad day at the office for Northwood.

Finally, Spartan South Midlands League Division Two champions Bovingdon suffered only their second defeat of the season at the hands of second-placed Old Bradwell United on Saturday.

Tony Cribb scored the game’s only goal after 65 minutes to cut the gap between the two to 10 points but, with only one game remaining in the season, Bovingdon have the title firmly in the bag.
