Cairo Sango of Enfield Ignatians featured in the Hertfordshire under-20s side that lost 22-12 to Lancashire under-20s in Cheshunt on Sunday.
The Ignatians youth graduate put in a strong performance against a side containing players from some of Britain’s historic clubs.
Sango played in one of the county’s three pool games and also featured in the 28-19 quarter-final victory against Cornwall.
Sango said: “After the game, the selectors inform Josh Milton (Welwyn) and myself that we had been called up to the Hertfordshire senior county squad.
“I will also be taking part in the south east trials, which is the pathway to the England Counties side.”
Hertfordshire started well but went into the break 12-7 behind, and Lancashire took over in the second half and were able to hold on for the victory, despite having a player sent off for foul play.
