Enfield’s promotion fate is their own hands heading into the final weekend of the Middlesex League season after they thrashed neighbours Southgate by 149 runs.

The Division Two leaders are on 128 points, five points clear of Stanmore with Harrow St Marys only three points outside the two promotion places. However, fourth-placed Hornsey, who are Enfield’s opponents on Saturday, are on 116 points and also still in the shake-up for a top-two finish.

A stunning 269-run first-wicket partnership between Jack Plumb and Lasbourne Edwards set the table-toppers up for their latest victory.

Plumb cracked 111 from 123 deliveries, but Edwards was in destructive form, smashing six sixes and 17 fours as he raced to 138 from 113 balls.

Enfield were well set after reaching 311-3 from their 45 overs, but they didn’t have it all their own way before wrapping up a convincing success.

Luke Hutton (39) and Shoaib Zuliqar (41) put on 76 for the first wicket, but once that alliance was broken Enfield were to encounter few problems, taking wickets six to nine without conceding a run.

Faisal Mir was the most successful bowler with 3-42, while Rehan Hassan (2-21) and Arthur George (2-29) picked up two apiece.
