Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas Boas was pleased to welcome back injured duo Younes Kaboul and Sandro after the pair returned from injury in the 1-1 draw with Espanyol.

Both players missed a significant chunk of last season, with Kaboul playing just once for Spurs in the opening day defeat to Newcastle United 12 months ago.

Midfielder Sandro sustained his injury during the goalless draw at Queens Park Rangers in January, ending his season in the process.

French international Kaboul came on at half-time on Saturday, while Sandro replaced debutant Paulinho for the final half-an-hour of the friendly.

Speaking to the club’s official site, Villas-Boas was delighted to have the two available once more and said: “To see Sandro and Younes back, players who have been so important for the club, is amazing, bearing in mind their absence.

“Particularly Younes, almost 12 months since he last played, he showed great strength of character to come back at this level and it means we can count on him in one or two weeks and we’re extremely happy with that.”

There was also a home debut for winger Nacer Chadli, while fellow new recruit Roberto Soldado marked his debut with a penalty to score Spurs' sole goal of the game.
