I would like to thank all those who campaigned for me and voted for me in Enfield Southgate. I believe that the Green Party could have had many more votes in Southgate and in plenty of other areas, if people had not felt forced into tactical voting, because of our unfair electoral system. However, the votes cast in this election in my area were three times those of 2010, so we are steadily growing.
For many of us, it will take a while to get over the horrendous results of this election, but I understand that a petition to reform our electoral system is to be handed in at Downing street and I hope many people will agree and decide to do something about it.
I am not sure how well known it is, but there is already an electoral reform society called ‘Unlock Democracy’, which would no doubt welcome new members, as of course would the Green Party, since electoral reform is one of our top priorities.
