I am naturally by background and conscience a Labour supporter but have voted Tory in the last two national elections.

I would like to extend my commiserations to the previous conservative MP Nick de Bois. I believe he was a good constituency MP and presented himself well in fighting for the Enfield North constituency.

During Mr de Bois’s tenure he did not involve himself with any expenses scandals or alteration of his Wikipedia page and there was no hint of hypocrisy over the closures at Chase Farm Hospital or anything else. He was unwise to suggest that the A&E and maternity would remain open under the Conservatives but that was a done deal watched over by the previous MP anyway.

His general demeanour as an MP was not to put the constituency second to his personnel self-promotion and wellbeing and we did not receive a calendar for any year with a picture of himself on every page. He was not a nearly person: promising to do this, do that, discuss with, arrange a conference with, write to etc, with no tangible result, for example Chase Farm or fighting for a recycling centre to remain open, which he couldn’t do as there is only one in Enfield now the second being closed under the previous incumbent’s tenure.

Mr de Bois was also not disloyal to the Prime Minister when he saw how many in the constituency and country were turning against him. Hopefully he will continue some of the good work he has done in the community and not disappear off the scene until the next election, as others have been known to do.

It would be interesting to see how anybody who could be guilty of the above lacks of integrity could possibly be selected to any constituency, but could it happen if the same lack of integrity was present in the selection board? I guess it could, and if it did that person would need to be watched very closely.
