Staff at a hospital trust were rewarded for their hard work this week at their annual award ceremony.

Workers at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals attended the Trust’s Outstanding Staff Celebration and Rewards (OSCaRs).

The ceremony took place at the in Greenfields Restaurant, Chase Farm Hospital, and featured more than a dozen categories including Unsung Hero, Safety First award and Patient Champion Award.

Award-winning comedian Patrick Monahan hosted the ceremony, who helped handed out the awards with dignitaries.

The winner of the Equality and Diversity award was Mandy Lovett, a nursery nurse at Chase Farm Hospital.

At the ceremony, Mr Monahan said: “She is excellent in helping parents to build their confidence whilst on the Unit by providing them with the basic skills to care for their baby before taking them home."

"She is seen as being a role model to other staff members including nurses and doctors by her positive nature, her flexibility and inclusivity for all in the neonatal environment.”

There were two winners of the Unsung Hero award, with the first being Medical Records Clerk Kana Saravanabaun.

Mr Monahan said: “He tirelessly delivers thousands of patient notes in whatever weather with a smile and nothing is too much trouble for him.

“He never ever complains. He is one of the most pleasant and helpful people in this Trust. He provides an outstanding service for our department and others. If anyone deserves this award he does."

The other Unsung Hero award went to Malcolm Gould, a Theatre Sterile Service Assistant who has worked at the trust for 22 years.

Mr Monahan said when presenting the award: “He never complains, he is never sick. Come rain, come snow he turns up for work. When he is away on holidays he is solely missed.

“He takes pride in his work. Sadly, no one outside the department knows what he does and the valued role he plays within the operating department.”

On hand to deliver the awards were, Madam Deputy Mayor Kate Salinger of Barnet and Mr Deputy Mayor Chaudhury Anwar MBE from Enfield.

The winners of all the categories are as follows:- Patient Champion Award Winner: Nicola Akehurst, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist.

Equality and Diversity Award Winner: Mandy Lovett, Nursery Nurse.

Creativity, Innovation and Learning Award Winner: Karen Mannion, Clinical Skills Facilitator.

Getting the Basics Right Award Winner: Day Surgery, Barnet Hospital.

Safety First Award Winner: Anti-Coagulation Service.

Keeping Clean and Preventing Infections Award Winner: Beech Ward, Barnet Hospital.

Dignity in Care Award Winner: Chemotherapy Department, Chase Farm Hospital.

Food for Life Award Winner: Andy Antoniou, Chef.

First Impressions Last Award Winner: Kymberly Taylor, Midwife.

Taking the Lead Award Winner: Esther Harrisberg, Recovery Senior Sister.

Excellence in Cost Improvement Award Winner: Bladder, bowel and personal hygiene group.

Unsung Hero Award Winner: Kana Saravanabavan, Medical Records Porter and Malcolm Gould, Sterile Service Assistant.

Baroness Wall Award Winner: Ray Dearie and Aliza Soguilon, Discharge Co-ordinators.
