A derelict fire house transformed into a learning centre for young people will be officially opened by 800m Paralympic champion Danny Crates.

The house in Edmonton was once home to a fire chief but has now been renovated to be part of the West Lea School, in Haselbury Road.

The school hopes the centre will be a place where pupils aged from 14 to 19 will be able to learn how to be indenpendent and learn skills for later life.

The construction of the renovation of the house was paid for central government grant of £310,000.

The centre will be opened by Mr Crates and pupils from the school on Wednesday September 26.
