A disabled woman “proud” of Team GB's Paralympians is in training for her own charity triathlon.

Anne Taylor, 54, who lives in Broomfield Avenue in Palmers Green, will swim 400 metres and travel 5km in a sports wheelchair as part of the challenge, called Try Together.

Begona Mendez who works for Ms Taylor's chosen charity, Leonard Cheshire Disability, will cycle 15km to complete the triathlon.

She hopes to raise at least £200 the charity which provides care and support for thousands of people in the UK with disabilities.

Any money raised will serve as a thank you to the service after she spent nine years living in Arnold House in The Ridgeway, which is a care home run by the charity.

Ms Taylor, who has tickets to see the Paralympic volleyball team next month, said: “I am just so proud of the Paralympians and what they can do I decided to go for it.

“People ask what I am doing, it has got people interested. People are just saying ‘how are you doing it?’ I am saying, ‘I’m just doing it.’ I have got really fit now, it is no problem.”

Ms Taylor, who started training in April by visiting a Palmers Green gym at least twice a week and employing a personal trainer, has lost over a stone in weight because of her new exercise regime and healthy eating plan.

She said she is even travelling more quickly in her wheelchair because of her fitness. Before her training, it took 20 minutes to travel to Palmers Green station from her house, but it now takes five minutes.

She added: "I have met lots of people and made friends in the gym and it is is just something for me to do. It actually helps me because it makes me move my wheelchair faster."

Ms Taylor, who is particularly keen on swimming, expects the triathlon on Sunday, August 19, in Crystal Palace, to take approximately an hour.

She said she will carry on with her fitness regime after the triathlon and plans to embark on more charity activities, including a sponsored skydive.
