A Zumba teacher from Borehamwood is delighted that a cancer patient she raised money for is now free of the disease.

Esther Shortt, 47, who runs exercise classes across Barnet, organised a zumba party in Mill Hill in April to raise money for Hannah Bradley.

The party, which was attended by 30 people, raised more than £650 for the 28-year-old who had a brain tumor.

Ms Bradley needed to raise £200,000 to pay for controversial treatment in the USA which was her only remaining chance.

However, despite skepticism from British doctors, the treatment has worked and Ms Bradley has just been declared cancer free.

Ms Shortt said: “Last year the prognosis was really bleak. This treatment was her last chance so I wanted to help.

“The fact it has worked is brilliant, it is fantastic.

“Even though we only raised a little bit it feels wonderful that we were able to help.”

Ms Bradley, from Hendon, was diagnosed with cancer in February 2011 after she suffered a seizure in the night.

She had a six-and-a-half hour operation last April which was followed by six weeks of radiotherapy.

However, after all of this her remaining treatment options were very limited and her life expectancy was unknown.

Therefore, she, and her partner Pete Cohen, set about trying to raise enough money for the American treatment.

The pair started fundraising last summer as Team Hannah, and to date they have raised £167,000 through such events as parachute jumps and marathons.
