Men are being encouraged by Enfield Council to get up off the couch and take part in a week of free sports sessions.

Activities include football, swimming, Tai Chi and Zumba, and are on offer in different venues throughout the borough from today until Sunday, June 17.

Cabinet member for culture, sport and leisure, Councillor Bambos Charalambous said: “We want men to take greater care of their hearts by getting up off the couch and doing more exercise.

"Active people live longer and have a better quality of life, so adopting a healthier lifestyle by taking up one of the fun activities on offer is a great idea.”

He said he hopes the taster sessions will help protect men from heart disease, which kills 50,000 men in the UK each year.

An hour-long non contact boxing session will go ahead at Enfield County Upper School in Holly Walk from 6pm tonight.
