A mouse-infested Thai restaurant deemed a “major risk” to public health is back in business.

Joy Buffet in Sarnesfield Road reopened on Saturday, June 2, just over three weeks after it was shut by environmental health officers.

Officers visited the restaurant in May and found mouse droppings littering the cooker and the basin in the restaurants’ kitchens.

There were also many ways for the vermin to get into the kitchen to gnaw on open food bags.

However, environmental health officers revisited the restaurant and were satisfied the owners had addressed the serious breaches of health and safety regulations.

A member of staff at Joy Buffet, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It is better now. We never found the mice but we are decorating it and changing everything in the kitchen.”

When questioned on whether business had picked up since the opening on Saturday, she said: “It is okay. It is good.”

The owners were fined £1,075 after they appeared at Enfield Magistrates Court in May for breaching health and safety regulations.

Environmental health officers investigated the premises after receiving complaints from customers that ants could be seen in the restaurant.
