A gang member from Edmonton is the first person in the UK to be jailed for breaching a gang injunction. Dylan Martin, 19, was jailed for 15 months yesterday at West London County Court for meeting known gang members despite being banned from doing so.

Martin, who was linked to numerous gangs, was given a suspended prison sentence in July for breaking an original court order seven times in four months.

The breach included congregating with gang members, intimidating people living in the area and entering an area in Edmonton from which he has was banned.

Councillor Christine Hamilton, Enfield Council's cabinet member for community wellbeing and public health, said: "We will not tolerate gang members intimidating people and doing whatever they choose and this sentence reflects society's revulsion at the behaviour of gangs in our communities.

"We are working together as a community to tackle gang and serious youth violence and we want gang members to see the light and change their ways, those that don't will feel the full force of the law - as Dylan Martin has."

The terms of the original injunction included banning Martin from associating with gang members in a public place, featuring in threatening or violent audio or video clips on the internet, wearing clothes with a hood in a public place or being in possession of a knife or firearm in a public place.
