Pupils at a primary school in Enfield took a trip back in time to celebrate its 100th year.

Students at George Spicer Primary School, in Southbury Road, took part in Edwardian lessons and wore authentic dress to mark the school’s centenary on Friday.

Former pupils and teachers including headteachers Jon Abbey and Chris Bailey were also invited back to the school for a reunion on Saturday to share memories of the school and discuss how it has changed over the past century.

Ngozi Lutu, business manager at the school for two years, said: “It has been good for our students to find out how the school has changed over the past 100 years.

“We have been learning about the Edwardians so the day made it a bit more graphic for the children.”

She said there were many tears between former pupils at the reunion who met after not seeing each other for as long as 50 years.

The school has gone through many changes over the past 100 years, including the construction of an air raid shelter under the school playground during the Second World War.

Mrs Lutu added: “It was a really successful day. The current kids at the school found it really interesting, especially seeing how the school had changed over the years.”

The deputy mayor for Enfield, Kate Anolue, also attended the event.

Although some students had moved further afield, Mrs Lutu said most had remained local to Enfield.

Parents and staff had been planning the two-day event for the past year.
