A HOSPITAL receptionist rushed to the aid of an expectant mother and helped deliver her baby in the back of a taxi.

Shareefa La’Force had to act quickly when Mbu Mbasia arrived at The Whittington Hospital in labour but did not have time to get into the waiting wheelchair.

Ms La'Force, recently named best customer services provider by the health trust, climbed into the back of the cab and calmed down Ms Mbasia, covering her with a coat with the help of a colleague.

Baby boy Ethan's head and shoulders were already out when midwives arrived to take over, as both Ms La'Force and Edmonton resident Ms Mbasia shed a few tears.

Ms La'Force said she was still in shock after being called into action, on January 4 at the hospital in Archway.

The hospital said it is “delighted to confirm that both mother and baby are healthy and well”.
