AN Enfield Town shop worker got a bumper early Christmas present after winning a prize draw to celebrate the launch of a campaign to boost local trade.

Katrina Faughnan, 31, had the winning ticket for the Love Your High Street draw, and was presented with a wealth of gifts from Enfield businesses, including a flatscreen Sony TV and a watch from G Mantella Jewellers.

She said: “I never win anything so I was really surprised – I think the campaign is great.”

The campaign, launched by Enfield Business and Retailers Association (EBRA) last month, promotes the wide variety of shops in the borough’s high streets and has been backed by all three Enfield MPs, who picked the winning ticket last week.

Chairman of EBRA, Olly Prigmore, said the campaign – which also held a flashmob in Enfield Town earlier this month – had received a “brilliant” response.

He added: “This is all about getting people back on their local high street and supporting their local shops.

“We needed a campaign to raise awareness and after the disturbances in August, it really has really galvanised a community spirit and the retailers have embraced it.”

Hundreds of people entered the prize draw to win the goodies, which also included a Sony iPod dock and speakers, a Marks & Spencer hamper, an Emma Claire Health and Beauty Spa treatment, a free eye test from Goodlooking Optics and a teddy bear.
