The headteacher of Lavender Primary School has scored an almighty own goal by cancelling the traditional Christmas party for pupils.
Judging by the unprecedented protests outside the school gates it is clear the decision was as unpopular with parents as it was with children.
The head Jane Dookheran has blamed the pressures of the unyielding national curriculum as one of the reasons for postponing the party -- but that really is no excuse for a five-year-old.
Ms Dookheran can only be admired for standing by her decision in the wake of such hostility.
But she would be forgiven and respected if she swallowed her pride and gave the children a Christmas party to remember.
