ARMED police were called in after a man was shot on a main road into Winchmore Hill.
The 30-year-old was reportedly slumped in the passenger seat of a black car which had mounted the curb outside Winchmore Hill Police Station, in Green Lanes, yesterday.
Armed officers with machine guns and flak jackets patrolled a cordon around the car as paramedics tended to the man who eyewitnesses reported was bleeding heavily from his leg.
An air ambulance landed in nearby Sainsburys car park at around 2.20pm and the man was rushed to hospital with gun shot wounds.
The car remained sealed off for several hours after the shooting, although Green Lanes was reopened to traffic.
Stefania Antoniazzi, who lives opposite the police station, which is adjacent to the Sainsburys entrance, said police were at the scene well into the evening.
She said: “I went to put the rubbish out and saw an officer standing guard on the corner of Sainsburys.
“There was red and white tape around the end of the pavement and armed police. When I looked there was nobody in the car but there were still officers around it.
“I have lived here for the last three-and-a-half years and Winchmore Hill is a nice place, but over the last couple of years it has really worse and there have been a few incidents with police coming.”
