A MAN convicted of allowing his dog to maul another dog to death is appealing against his sentence.

Ernest Kyem was found guilty of owning a dangerous dog last November after he failed to turn up to his hearing at Enfield Magistrates' Court.

He had been accused of letting his Neapolitan Mastiff kill a West Highland White Terrier and seriously injure another by allowing it off the leash.

Both attacks took place in February last year.

Mr Kyem was given a 90-day suspended prison sentence and 200 hours of community service.

He also had to pay the two dog owners nearly £3,000 in compensation and was banned from owning a dog for ten years.

Mr Kyem lodged his appeal on December 20, 2009. It will be heard on Friday at Wood Green Crown Court.
