ELEVEN vehicles were seized last week when police and children held a road safety day at a speeding blackspot in Enfield Town.

Last Wednesday in Cecil Road, Enfield Town, pupils from St Andrews primary school, accompanied by police and council teams, spoke to drivers about unsafe driving.

Ten vehicles were removed for not having tax or insurance, one car was removed as the driver did not have a full driving licence, and two drivers were issued with fixed penalty notices for having defective tyres.

A 17-year-old boy was also arrested for possession of cannabis, and four verbal warnings issued to drivers for driving whilst on a mobile phone.

Most residents fared worst however when it came to seatbelt wearing, with 16 verbal warnings given, while one warning was issued for a child not being properly strapped in a car seat.

Verbal warnings were also given to three people with illegal number plates.

Police Sergeant Paul Agland, Enfield Town Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: “We took a very robust approach towards drivers during this operation issuing fixed penalty notices and removing vehicles for a number of offences. Part of the operation also saw us educating drivers and we are glad that we were able to work with local school children to drive home our road safety message. We will continue to conduct operations like these with our partners in order for people to adhere to the rules of the road.”
