A GP practice has been closed by Enfield health bosses because of concerns over care.

The Bush Hill Park Medical Practice, in Amberley Road, was closed today until further notice.

One of the practice's GPs, Dr Anthonipillai Nicholas-Pillai, was suspended from November 9 2009 by an interim order panel of the General Medical Council.

A fitness to practise panel found Dr Pillai to have botched the circumcision of a baby in June 2008, for which he was suspended for six months.

A PCT spokeswoman said that letters had been sent to patients informing them the practise was to be closed from today. The practise was however open on Friday and patients were still turning up for appointments this morning.

A statement from NHS Enfield said: "Following concerns about the standard of care being provided to patients by the Bush Hill Park Medical Practice, NHS Enfield has terminated the contract it held with the practice. This means that no services will be provided from the main surgery at 24 Amberley Road, Bush Hill Park, EN1 2QY or from the branch surgery at 113, High Street, Ponders End, EN3 4ED with effect from 08.00 a.m. on Monday 17th May 2010.

"All patients from the practice will receive letters from NHS Enfield advising them of the alternative arrangements which have been made for their continuing care at the Edmonton GP Health Centre, Evergreen Primary Care Centre, 1 Smythe Close, Edmonton, telephone 020 8887 8354. Patients will also be provided with details of all other local practices where they may instead choose to register."
