Five men have been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run death of a woman in Palmers Green this morning.

The men, all aged in their thirties, were arrested at an address in Ilford and are in custody at an east London police station.

The police have now launched an appeal for information about the incident.

Officers were called at around 4.25am this morning to reports that a car had collided with pedestrians on the North Circular Road just past the junction with Green Lanes in Palmers Green.

Officers and London Ambulance crews attended the scene and found a white Honda had been in collision with five pedestrians, who are all aged in their twenties.

One of the pedestrians, a 20-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5.10am. Her next of kin have now been informed.

All the other pedestrians were taken to hospital. One man and a woman remain in hospital in a critical condition, one man remains in hospital with a broken leg and one man has since been discharged.

Investigators believe that the white Honda was travelling eastbound with a red vehicle, when it mounted the footpath and was in collision with the pedestrians.

The occupants of the white Honda stopped at the scene and abandoned the vehicle. The red vehicle did not stop at the scene.

Officers from the Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath Traffic Garage are investigating.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

They are also keen to hear from the driver or occupants of the red vehicle or anyone with any information about it.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information can call the dedicated witness line on 020 8597 4874 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
