SELFLESS and long-serving members of the Enfield community have received the highest honour the borough can bestow on them.
Ten people were awarded the Freedom of the Borough at a ceremony at the Civic Centre on Friday evening. They had been nominated by councillors for their good works.
Mayor Graham Eustance received the accolade along with Mike Gatting, former England Cricket captain and Middlesex County Cricket player.
Mr Gatting was nominated in recognition of his contribution to sport in the borough.
The Freedom of the borough was also given to councillors John Jackson and John Wyatt, and to Samuel Marius Soalla Bell for his contribution to the Enfield Racial Equality Council.
Former Enfield mayors Stanley Carter and John Connew received the prize, along with Sydney Castle for his contribution to the Enfield Disability Association.
Joan Ward received the honour for her services to education, Enfield in Bloom and the Enfield Youth Orchestra.
Molly Sutton was also honoured for her contribution to health care and community concerns.
