Jobs still down in Haringey — but signs of a turnaround in recent months

Latest figures for February 2026 show 132,100 employees on payroll in Haringey, 1,614 fewer than a year ago, a fall of 1.2%. However, payrolls grew by 108 over the past month, a 0.1% month-on-month rise that hints at stabilising demand for staff.

Neighbouring boroughs have also seen annual declines, but some are holding up slightly better.

Enfield’s payroll is down 1.1% year-on-year, while Hackney has also fallen 1.1%.

Camden has been hit harder, with a 1.5% annual drop in employee numbers, placing it among London’s weaker performers.

Overall, Haringey ranks 27th out of 33 London boroughs for annual payroll change, leaving it firmly in the lower half of the table.

Across the capital, some areas such as Barking and Dagenham and Newham have seen growth, but others – including Westminster – continue to record steep falls.

Nationally, early ONS estimates point to a small year-on-year decline in payrolled employees, underlining the difficult backdrop for local employers.

WageSight director Paul Hebden said the recent monthly rise in Haringey suggested “some stabilisation”, but warned it was too early to call a sustained turnaround.
