A MAN who admitted to a charge of possession of a fighting dog will be sentenced in May.

Anthony Byrne, of Ellen Street, Sutton, appeared before Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, April 23.

Byrne, 42, pleaded guilty before magistrates to the charge, contrary to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.

He admitted to having possession of a pit bull-type dog called Nala on February 29 this year.

At the hearing, Byrne's sentencing was adjourned at the request of the defence for a temperament report to be prepared for Nala.

The 42-year-old was granted unconditional bail and will appear back at the magistrates' court for sentencing on Friday, May 17.
